If you love salty/sweet flavors, this one's for you! Feel free to use unsalted Saltines if you're worried about the additional salt content. You can also be creative with the toppings - sprinkles, nuts, or even toasted coconut flakes!
Ingredients
About one sleeve of Saltine crackers (or enough to cover a half-sheet jelly roll pan)
1 cup unsalted butter
1 cup dark brown sugar
2 cups dark chocolate chips
Coarse sea salt
Non-stick spray
Directions
Preheat oven to 400°F. Line a jelly roll pan (11x17") with foil. Spray it very lightly with oil.
In a medium sauce pan, combine the butter and dark brown sugar over medium-high heat. As the butter starts to melt, stir occasionally to dissolve the brown sugar.
As soon as it comes to a boil, STOP STIRRING. Set a timer for 3 minutes and allow it to caramelize. Meanwhile, line your baking sheet with a single layer of crackers.
Once the 3 minutes is up, carefully pour the caramelized sugar over the crackers, and place the pan in the oven for 5 minutes.
Remove the pan from the oven, and sprinkle the chocolate chips on top. Let it sit for 5 minutes to allow the chocolate to begin melting. Then, spread the chocolate evenly over the caramelized crackers, and sprinkle with course sea salt. Cool completely before breaking into pieces.
